Community Consultation for the Rosewood Eco Park

Early community engagement to seek input into proposed Rosewood Eco Park will commence on 3rd July 2023. The community engagement work is being led by Brooks Community Engagement, on behalf of the site owner, Rosewood Corporation Holdings Pty Ltd. Jackson Environment and Planning Pty Ltd has been engaged to conduct early planning and scoping to inform the proposal.

The Rosewood Eco Park will help restore and return a degraded quarry site into revegetated land to benefit the local community. The 15-hectare site is located on Rosewood Rd, a little over 4km west of the township of Wauchope, on the mid-north Coast of New South Wales.

The site is known historically as Maxwell’s Quarry and was most recently used as a gravel and blue-metal quarry operated by Hanson, with operations dating back to the 1960’s. The mining license for the operation has been surrendered. The site is currently vacant, with the disused gravel quarry the most notable feature on the site.

The Rosewood Eco Park will involve a three-stage development of the land, to help restore and return the degraded site into revegetated land to benefit the local community.Stage one will involve the development of a Resource Recovery Facility to receive, sort and process construction and demolition materials in a fully enclosed building into a range of value-added recycled products, such as aggregate, sands, mulch and soils for use in construction and landscaping. Stage two will involve the remediation and revegetation of the legacy quarry void with soils recovered from the recycling process. Stage three will then see the establishment of captive breeding sites for native species and a koala feed tree plantation in partnership with Billabong Zoo, Koala and Wildlife Park.

Early community engagement is currently underway to seek the views of the local community to help inform the rehabilitation of the site.

A fact sheet is available on the proposal.
